On Friday, March 13th, Rep. Marisa Márquez filed Texas' first full-scale medical marijuana bill. The legislation allows qualified patients, once they have received a doctor's note and registered with the state, to purchase and/or grow medical marijuana from a licensed dispensary.
Polls show that a majority of Texans support medical marijuana. 76% of Texans think seriously ill people should have the right to use marijuana for medical purposes, according to a recent poll by the University of Texas and the Texas Tribune.
House Bill 3785 would apply to cancer patients, veterans suffering with PTSD, children who suffer from seizures, and other Texans suffering from a "debilitating medical condition." The law also would allow for the establishment and regulation of medical cannabis cultivation facilities, product manufacturing facilities, independent testing facilities, and dispensaries.
