A win for women's rights: Judge issues a permanent injunction against fetal tissue law
A judge issued a permanent injunction halting enforcement of the fetal tissue burial law, ruling that the statute placed "substantial obstacles in the path of women seeking medical care."
The law "would likely cause a near catastrophic failure of the healthcare system designed to serve women of childbearing age within the State of Texas," U.S. District Judge David Ezra wrote in a decision posted in online records.
Today’s decision allows women to make their own decisions about their families, future, and reproductive health with the advice of a healthcare professional she trusts.
Our partners at Whole Woman's Health and the Center for Reproductive Rights have been fighting this law since before it was passed by the Texas Legislature in 2017. Their legal battle and win today have ensured that women's rights are again, protected.
We will celebrate today’s victory, knowing that our work is not done. Women everywhere deserve affordable access to abortion care, and we will continue to fight for it.
