Nationwide Calls to Action
Advocacy groups from across the country are mobilizing huge voting blocs for the Harris campaign. It started with a nationwide call hosted by “Win With Black Women,” which raised more than $2 million off the bat. This has since galvanized Black men, white women to "Answer the Call,” South Asian, Latino, LGBTQ+, young voters, and “White Dudes for Harris” to follow suit, reportedly breaking records for only one of these demographic coalition calls, on a single Zoom at 160,000 participants.
There are 98 days until the General Election on Nov. 5, 2024, and there’s so much more to do before that deadline! Whether it’s starting conversations with peers like on these calls, or organizing on phone banks, if you’re itching for more ways to get involved, we’ve got you covered with several key actions for these next, crucial months.
Getting Hyped for Harris
Talk to your family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, every person you know, about Vice President Kamala Harris’ record as someone who will staunchly advocate for the expansion of children’s, immigrants’, LGBTQ+, prisoners’, reproductive, and women’s rights, who believes “in a brighter future that makes room for all Americans.” She offers us hope in contrast to the threat of a Trump presidency combined with Project 2025 plans of destruction to our democracy.
Americans are siding with hope for Harris, evidenced by the slew of endorsements from millions of Democrats, Progressives, Independents, Republican grassroots donors, and Progress Texas, that demonstrated swift, united support for Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee for President. The Harris team has tons of opportunities to join campaign efforts, located on their site here.
Support Local Election Efforts
It’s critical to remember that VP Harris is not the only candidate on the ballot this November, there are down-ballot races that need and deserve your vote too. For FAQs about your ballot, election deadlines, ID requirements, and how to check your registration status, check out our handy GoVoteTexas.org website for more information!
On the importance of local elections, you can very easily support efforts by becoming a volunteer deputy registrar (VDR), which enables you to register people to vote. It’s super easy, and in some counties you can even train online. National Voter Registration Day is coming up on Sept. 17, so let this serve as a reminder to check your registration status today and sign up to be a VDR here.
Many VDRs will also work as poll and election workers. These often paid volunteers are key individuals who help run our elections, and we believe that these roles should be filled by those who want to protect free and fair elections. Young people are especially suited to these roles, with more flexible schedules, and activated voting rights expertise from college campus advocacy groups.
National Poll Worker Recruitment Day is this Thursday, Aug. 1st! Take action today by watching the Texas Secretary of State’s Poll Watcher training here to get involved now, protect Texan votes, and address the continued need for poll workers to sign up early and strengthen our democracy.
“In a matter of months, Americans can and must continue the path forward of progress, and reject another chaotic and corrupt Trump administration focused on retribution, surrounded by extremists who want to turn back the clock on our abortion and civil rights, our environment, on public education, and every sacred part of our American way of life,” said Kathleen Thompson, Progress Texas Executive Director.
