STATEMENT: For Texas Progressives, the Fight Continues

The Fight Continues
We Remain Humans Against Ted Cruz

Texans are Built for Extremes, Buckle Up For What’s Next, We’ll Need You

TEXAS – Dangerous Donald Trump and Ted Cruz are both re-elected to office, but Texans have already been tested, and know best what it’s like to survive under Project 2025’s hostile conditions. Progressives and their allies should be proud of their fight, and maintain a strong coalition heading into next year, with a new no-guardrails Trump presidency, Project 2025 bonfire of our U.S. Constitution, and what may be the worst Texas Legislative Session in modern memory.

“You are not wrong and not alone in believing that all people have the right to determine what happens with their bodies and their futures,” said Progress Texas Advocacy Associate Tatum Owens. “You are not wrong and you are not alone in having celebrated and continuing to celebrate the hard-fought seat at the table that women, people of color and other historically disenfranchised people have earned and will continue to earn.”

“Despite millions spent to unseat progressive and Democratic champions, many were returned to office by their neighbors to the Texas and US Capitals, and an anti-American abortion travel ban was soundly defeated in Amarillo,” said Progress Texas Advocacy Manager Reagan Stone. “Progress Texas renews our commitment to the good fight with them—for reproductive justice, a clean environment, fair elections, good schools, common sense gun safety, and the basic universal human dignity we all deserve.

“Tuning out and staying home in future political battles is not an option. We must continue to fight fascism and the erasure of our rights, together,” said Progress Texas Executive Director Kathleen Thompson. “Campaigns come and go, but our progressive movement is forever. An authoritarian extremist ruling party deserves a strong, united opposition. Stay with us.”
