Conservatives love to legislate as if Texans do not support abortion rights, but it couldn’t be farther from the truth. And while we all know that truth and facts are not things that conservatives subscribe to these days, it’s still worth taking a look at where the Texas population is on the issue.
Let’s start with the big number: 78% of Texans support some form of abortion rights.
If that sounds surprising, it’s only because we’re constantly sold an alternate reality by Texas politicians. But we get the real story when we go straight to the voters.
The data comes from the experts at the non-partisan Texas Politics Project, who have been tracking a specific set of questions from 2017 to 2022. And is turns out, that 78% number has been steady since 2017, and only deviating within a +/- 3% margin of error:
